Character Breakdown
Four fiercely distinct young women at the center of What Every Girl Should Know.
Age 15
Headstrong, loud, sarcastic, and fiercely loyal. Anne can be aggressive and commanding, but beneath her toughness is considerable sensitivity and vulnerability.
Adventurous and impulsive, she often uses humor and bravado as armor.
Age 15
Warm, mischievous, romantic, and intuitive. Theresa is often the peacemaker of the group and projects a maturity and worldliness beyond her years.
She possesses a vivid imagination, a playful sensuality, and a longing for a larger life.
Age 14
Scrappy, outspoken, innocent, and wonderfully imaginative. The youngest of the group, Lucy is inexperienced and sometimes naive, relying on the other girls as she begins to understand the world around her.
Energetic and deeply affectionate, she throws herself wholeheartedly into the girls’ shared fantasies.
Age 15
Proud, defiant, guarded, and strong. The newest arrival, Joan initially keeps the others at a distance.
Intelligent, ambitious, and slow to trust, she has a fierce temper when pushed. Her strength masks deep wounds, but she possesses an extraordinary capacity for loyalty, hope, and belief.
Content Transparency
The play contains mature themes and material involving sexuality, bodily autonomy, reproductive health, religion, sexual abuse, pregnancy, trauma, and institutional power.
The production also includes moments of simulated masturbation/self-pleasure and physical intimacy.
These moments will be approached with care, collaboration, and clearly established performer boundaries throughout the rehearsal process.
